“COMMUNITY AND CONNECTION”
Super Seniors are what my Yogini’s and Yogi’s like to be called. Indeed, they ARE Super Seniors! How lucky I am to be teaching my amazing students, who show up every week for the many health benefits they receive from yoga.
By participating in yoga, they are calming their nervous system, improving their balance, increasing strength, improving their immune system, increasing their energy level, flexibility and also their ability to smile.
I say “ability to smile” and I do not take it lightly. After a session of laughter yoga, one of my students came up to me and said “ I can’t smile”. I was taken aback! This student taught me a big lesson; never to assume anything as everyone comes to class with many life experiences.
I said to her, “Next week, I will bring in something that I think will help you to smile.” The following week she returned and I put on a visual aid for the laughter sequence of the class and after class this student came up to me and said “ I smiled today”. My, how she touched my heart!
Super Seniors have so many amazing stories! Many of my students were in W.W.II, some were war brides. I asked one war bride if she had a good marriage. She answered emphatically “NO”. One of my students landed on Juno Beach and was shot. His buddies, thank goodness, back tracked to find him and saved him. One of my students was in the Battle of the Atlantic. One student lost her fiance during the war, he was a bomber pilot and was shot down. One student lost her husband because of a land mine. She travelled to Europe every year to visit his grave. One of my students lost 3 of her 4 children. She shows up for yoga every week and is always the first to welcome new students, she helps them to find a seat and reassures them that they will enjoy the class. All of us have coffee/tea after class and this lady who has experienced so much tragedy entertains us with her wonderfully funny stories.
Yes, my students are SUPER SENIORS!
I never rush after a class, space is held for everyone.
